The origin of hair

In our view, a professional hair extension system must not only be of high quality, but also ethically sustainable and transparent in its production.

The origin of most hair used for extensions and wigs cannot be traced. Very few hair extension sellers know where the hair they sell comes from. Only in the case of temple hair is it known how, where, and from whom it is collected.

It is estimated that there are nearly one million Hindu temples in India, and the number is growing. Every year, thousands of tonnes of hair are donated to these temples. This temple tonsuring (India: cutting) ritual is believed to have begun around 900 years ago. There are many reasons for the specific act of offering hair. Many Hindus believe that their hair grows from their previous life, and that only when it is offered to the temple will their own hair begin to grow. Others wish to show the utmost respect to the Hindu deity they have chosen to honor.

Tonsuring is not limited to the poor or the rich; Hindus from all social classes may participate. Men take part in the ceremony more often than women. Participation is entirely voluntary.

In India, it is also possible to sell one’s hair. Many places (including hair salons) buy high-quality hair and pay the seller directly. Still, the majority of Indian Hindus choose the tonsuring ceremony.

Temples do not use the hair they receive, and they aim to sell or dispose of it. The largest buyers are the cosmetics, pharmaceutical, and food industries. Hair is also used locally, for example as stuffing for mattresses and pillows, and as a material for oil-spill mats and fuel filters. In the 1990s, it was noticed that some of the donated hair was of exceptionally high quality, and it was deemed unreasonable to destroy it or use it in filters, etc.

Hindu temples play not only a wide spiritual role but also a significant economic, educational, and social role in Indian society. On temple grounds, there are schools, hospitals, and dining halls that provide free services and meals to visitors. Temples are among the most important gathering places for the Hindu population, fostering social cohesion to which the underprivileged and, for example, people with disabilities are also entitled.

Indian hair is particularly well-suited in texture and structure for use as raw material for European hair extensions because it is soft and strong, yet not too thick. It is also most often untreated and naturally uniformly black, which makes the lightening and coloring process easier.

FAQ

To acquire Simply Natural extensions, you should consult with a trained hairstylist who will recommend the technique that best suits you.

The cost of extensions comprises several components. High-quality raw hair is precious. Simply Natural hair extensions are meticulously crafted by hand from start to finish. The production chain of an individual product package, from the temple to the factory and ultimately to the stylist’s chair, involves nearly 100 skilled hands. This meticulous process ensures exceptionally consistent quality. Hair extensions are often the most valuable salon service, and as such, quality should be expected.

It’s worth noting that sometimes, even with a small amount of hair extensions, you can achieve a significant transformation at a reasonable cost.

Hair extensions aim to surpass the length of the client’s natural hair. More material is required in this case to ensure that the extension material blends seamlessly and yields the most natural result. In thickening, the client’s hair length is preserved but a significantly larger amount of volume is added. Less time and material are needed for thickening compared to extensions and thickening, in fact, is one of the most popular salon services.

Every extension technique has its unique attributes, and what works best can vary from person to person. While the Mago extension technique is a great fit for many, we understand that everyone is different. Therefore, during a consultation, we may recommend an alternative technique that suits your individual needs.

The attachment knot of Mago extensions is single-use. However, it is possible to partially reattach the hair extensions, for example, using wax bondings. In such cases, they are no longer considered as Mago extensions.

Simply Natural has its own range of hair care products, which we recommend using to obtain a three-month material warranty for your extensions. Simply Natural hair does not require strong conditioning agents.

“Mago” is an ancient Korean word that means mother of nature.” The English word “mother” is derived from the Korean word “mago.”
